More about Mount Allison University
ATLIS, or the Atlantic International Studies Journal, is a nascent student-run undergraduate refereed journal whose overarching purpose is to foster undergraduate scholarship in the Atlantic region under the broad rubric of international studies. The journal will provide a venue for Atlantic-based students to publish quality term papers in a range of international studies related fields, such as international relations, political science, development studies, area studies, history, geography, and the like. At Mount Allison, this will benefit students taking courses in Arts and Social Sciences, providing an outlet for exceptional term papers that really should be in the public domain. The immediate goal of the ATLIS Organization is to host an inaugural conference to launch the journal here at Mount Allison University in January 2004, drawing undergraduates from universities in all four Atlantic provinces. At this conference, students will present papers, attend lectures delivered by high-profile speakers, participate in an editors’ workshop, and enjoy the opportunity to build intellectual community across the region. ATLIS hopes this conference will become an annual event here on campus. After the conference, an entirely student-run editorial committee (with a faculty advisory committee) will coordinate a peer-review process of conference papers. Those that pass the student peer review process will be published in the inaugural issue of ATLIS Journal, made available online on an ATLIS-run website. The ATLIS Organization currently operates with twenty-five enthusiastic volunteers (and growing) under the leadership of Michelle Langlois and Matthew Grant in close consultation with two faculty advisors, Thomas Legler and Owen Griffiths.
